Omega calibres database

Jan 21, 2010,10:02 AM

Here's a database of almost all Omega calibers through the years:

This database includes all the Omega calibers that are presented in the tables created by Mr Marco Richon, former curator of the Omega Bienne museum (he retired last month), and published in Omega reference books. There are 537 calibers in the database, up to 2003, 17,415 words, 34 single-spaced pages… I have not yet had the time to include calibers from 2003 to now, such as the coaxials... It incorporates notes and comments that I have gathered here and there, in particular some information offered by Mr Desmond Guilfoyle, the well-known Omega and Constellation expert, who has kindly agreed to let me include his data (with proper attribution). Some of the caliber cards have pictures.

For those who might be interested, this is a Bento database. Bento is a flat-file database program offered by Filemaker. It is inexpensive, and works on the Macintosh & iPhone/iPod platforms.

You will find here a Stuffit (.sitx) file containing the Bento 3 template for my database, and the data itself, in a tab-delimited format. If you do not have Bento, you can still open the tab-delimited file in another database program, MS Excel, or Numbers. Please note that pictures have not been exported in this file.

Other formats

Here's an uncompressed version of the data only, in .tab format and Macintosh character set. This can be imported into MS Excel, or opened with any word processor.

And here is the MS Excel file for Windows users. (Thanks to gatorcpa for this).

The Standard Disclaimer…

If you use it, please understand that this is a work-in-progress, a personal tool that I am offering without any guarantees. There might be errors (…if you find any, please notify me!). Much of the information is in French. Also, as much as I've culled the database, some of the calibers still may have duplicate files. If you find any, please merge them yourself!

I hope you find this useful.

Thank you for your offer Bill, but the pictures can not be uploaded in a ".tab", or ".xcl" file, which holds only text. I do enter new caliber pictures in my database when I find them on the web.

I use Bento regularly. The best database software you can buy for what it does. Compiling my whole watch inventory in it as we speak. I don't think there are many who use Macs on this forum, but I'm happy you posted it so I could take advantage of it. Hav...

Nice to see you again Kurt!
