A birthday gift to me - Speedmaster '57 CoAxial

Feb 25, 2015,02:54 AM

Team,

Yesterday was my birthday (Oh boy, I'm old!!) and thanks to a dear friend I was able to "unload" some watches that I got for several reasons but they got zero wrist time (no, they never got a picture here) and I could negotiate a much wanted Omega Speedmaster '57 CoAxial with the Omega Boutique.

This watch was (wrongly?) released by Omega in 2013 and it was somehow "lost" with all focus centered into the Dark Side Of the Moon despite of having, believe it or not, 15 versions of it (different dials, several metals etc.).

Same movement as the DSOTM (the legendary caliber 9300), smaller case (41.5mm), on a summary, my kind of watch.

Let's see some pictures of it:

What made to pay attention to the '57 was the gorgeous blue dial.

That looks good even in B&W

The red chronograph hands matches the dial

The dial changes with the light. Cool!

Love the perfect balance of the two registers. The date ... I can live with.

Straight lugs and no crown guards, just like the original Speedmaster 1957

Powered by the caliber 9300, one of the best industrial chronograph movements that I have.

A final picture, reflecting the blue summer sky.

One more true keeper IMHO.

Thanks for seeing.

Cheers,

Nilo

The '57 was "lost" among all Basel 2013 releases. On his always perfect coverage, Marcus Hanke wrote about this watch in Basel 2013: " And, finally, my favourite, that is currently stealing my sleep: Before Basel, I was definitely certain not to purchase ...

This is on my shopping list.

A watchmaker I respect a lot called the movement "Fantastic design, perhaps industry's best". He also praised the quality vs. price ratio and added that the movement is nicely finished. I also like the design and these factors kicked the watch to a very h...

The overall proportions are great and that blue dial is killer Still, I'm partial to the classicism of your Omega FOIS...hard to beat that one, even despite the merits of the cal. 9300 Cheers, John

That's the reason why ...

One should have the FOIS and this one (can I call it the Blue Side Of The Moon?). Cheers, Nilo

. . . then, consolidate." :-) Good move, Nilo - turning many unworn into one keeper! A solitary pic . . . . . . from my 2013 photo files. Yes, it's the same blue dial - just washed out by the red background of the light tent. Art ...

Believe it or not ....

I was not speculating. I did the unnamed watches acquisition to help another friend. I'm happy that everything went well and I ended up with the '57. Cheers, Nilo

The speculation lay in acquiring them . . .

I think enlarging the bi-compax subdials, especially now that the one at '3' has two hands, improves legibility tremendously, and was a brilliant idea. I'm surprised they maintain the original subdial sizes on other 9300s. Those look puny now with the abs...

You got it right ....

 By: nilomis : February 26th, 2015-14:16
The '57 dial/subdials looks more balanced than other versions of the 9300 caliber. Looking the DSOTM, as an example: But I still love the DSOTM. Cheers, Nilo ...

Late, but hope not too late.. Huge Congrats, for B-day & blue treasure ! :))
