SINGAPORE 26 October 2007

OMEGA , the luxury timepiece brand, celebrated the opening of its 50th Anniversary Speedmaster Exhibition with a spectacular night for more than 150 exclusive OMEGA guests.

Venue

The venue, a 6000 sq foot tent at the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, was transformed into exhibition halls called 'Time Hall', 'Mission Room' and 'Flight Deck' – all chronologically tracing the OMEGA time trail.  There was even an OMEGA Boutique on-site for those who desired instant gratification!   smile

Tour

Guests were first brought on a tour through Time Hall, which revealed a museum of the OMEGA Speedmaster range, featuring watches that date back to 1957, and then onto the Mission Room where they learnt about Speedmaster’s involvement in some of the extraordinary outer-space and moon-landing missions undertaken in the past 50 years. The tour ended with the Flight Deck (the main hall) where guests were ‘wowed’ with a breathtaking setting, one in which they had an experience of standing in a galaxy, under a star-lit sky with the sun and a moon and an impressive model airplane, the SolarImpulse , the latest venture Omega launching, hanging over-head.  Also featured as a highlight was the actual-sized Moon Rover vehicle.

Programme

The night commenced with a few words of welcome by Mr David Ponzo, President of Swatch Group, Singapore and Vice President of Omega, South East Asia. Guests of Honour were Mr Andre Borschberg, CEO of SolarImpulse and Mr Ralph Plaisted, the 1st confirmed human trekker to the North Pole.

The official opening was a grand affair with a magnificent display, starting with a crystal ball artist performance leading to a multimedia show triggered off by the Guests of Honour, once they placed the crystal ball in the ‘launch console’. This extravaganza filled the room with galaxy images accompanied by music and a video presentation, that of a montage of the history of Speedmaster, interspersed with bursts of brilliant lighting.

Guests were treated to a dazzling performance by four unitard clad aerial acrobats who demonstrated both elegant and precise movements in mid-air.

From mid-air to ground, intrigue continued as a multi media show created by 2 ballet dancers in mirror cat-suits with laser beams shining on their bodies.

The spectacular evening ended with a graceful modern jazz dance performed by ballet dancers.

“Since 1957, the Omega Speedmaster has played a significant role in momentous events including the Apollo 11 Mission, which saw the first astronaut to walk on the moon as well as the first confirmed human trek to the Geographic North Pole. This evening, we are proud to be celebrating the grand opening of the 50th anniversary of Omega Speedmaster Exhibition and are glad to be able to bring our top customers and guests together to enjoy themselves”, commented Mr David Ponzo.

Grazing

As guests were absorbed with the brilliant performances of the night, they were uniquely treated and served, by ‘robots’, to a sumptuous meal with generous offerings of savouries and delicious butler-passed canapés.  Lavish live stations offered Camphor Smoked Duck with Rice Paper Wrap and Pan Fried Fettuccini / Fusilli served with a choice of Mushroom Alfredo Sauce or Slipper Lobster Bisque Sauce.

With free-flowing champagne and wines, guests partied till late and all left with an etched memory of the night as well as a beautiful gift box containing Pins representing the 8 Moon Mission (Patches).
