Better batteries are coming.

And most trips are short. I have a plug-in hybrid, with electric range around 25 miles, and I can go weeks without using gas. And I have solar panels on my house.

Apple canceled theirs, Aston Martin has
By: Thomas_3 : March 1st, 2024-14:41
delayed theirs due to lack of demand. What you say?? Electric cars? Just an opinioin here but I think a lot of manufacturers jumped the gun when it come to them. Everyone was all in on EV's then realized the world really doesn't have the infrastructure fo...
EV / Autonomous
By: myles721 : March 1st, 2024-14:57
Is here to stay. National mandates from G20 nations almost guarantee that. It will definitely service / fill the urban / suburban around town needs almost immediately. Rural and longer trips will take some time but this is a done deal.
When you consider

the real world range available, it's all a bit silly. For optimum battery life they should only be charged to 80%, then, all manufacturers overstate the real world range, usually by at least 10% So, that smart looking 'earth friendly" eco-marvel isn't at ...
I am confused
By: Henke : March 3rd, 2024-01:04
As a reader of so-called "fact" sheets, I have encountered many which describe the problem you're suggesting the authors don't know about - that is, the need to balance intermittent generation with grid level storage. Here are a few examples - www.nre...
Has it crossed your mind
By: RabidManatee : March 3rd, 2024-01:18
that the authors you cite are aware of these issues but gloss over them in an effort to advance their agendas, be they motivated by profit, ideology, or both? There are no “gotchas” here. These are realities which grid operators are dealing with TODAY. Pe...
My friend, I am again confused -
By: Henke : March 3rd, 2024-02:53
Why would they gloss over the need for grid storage, when funding for their products and research relies on the magnitude of the problem at hand? There are many research groups, startups and incumbents vying to provide the solution to the grid storage pro...
Exactly!
By: Henke : March 3rd, 2024-03:15
Arbitrage is precisely the point! One of the main problems with wind and solar is that they are intermittent - that is, power generation (supply) doesn't necessarily follow power consumption (demand), so you need some way of smoothing it out. This is a hu...
Chicken or the egg problem?
By: Fastwong : March 1st, 2024-16:38
The technology isn't mature enough for mass adoption but then if the mnfrs and govt didn't make a push, maybe it never would be?
In its current

form it is hopeless. Electric motors are dramatically more efficient than ICE engines but that is only a small part of the story. The enviromental cost of battery production, their disposal, low energy density and consequent high weight make the whole thi...
Lectures are quite useful
By: Henke : March 1st, 2024-22:58
for shedding light on the truth...should one be open to the facts... As you said, it takes ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred to grow a man; but if you close your ears and run from lectures, you might remain a sapling forever...
Hey,
By: Henke : March 2nd, 2024-02:03
I like cars too, polluting or not I have no EVs or hybrids, but a nice 370 HP V6 right now. You would be sadly disappointed if you thought you could get away from my stalking in hell, because I suspect I'll end up right there with you :P
Indeed, CO2 will go up as a result of temperature increases...
By: Henke : March 1st, 2024-23:23
as the solubility of CO2 in water decreases with rising temperatures and it is liberated from the oceans. That is something you can demonstrate with a can of soda at home - take the can out from the fridge, more CO2 bubbles come out. But that doesn't mean...

Mercedes has delayed going totally EV as well…
By: S F : March 1st, 2024-17:33
I thought hybrid would have been a reasonable compromise. And while I am not an EV convert, I do believe it will be the future as more and more governments establish laws to phase out ICE cars. And this would naturally lead to reduced production of ICE ca...

By: S F : March 2nd, 2024-02:19
But the whole idea has taken on a very strong financial angle to it. Everyone is thinking how to make money out of this thematic. We are talking about trillions needed to transit to achieve the grand plan of net zero. How much incremental emissions are go...
We are in a transitional phase …

EV’s are and will continue to rapidly evolve. I use an EV on a regular basis and then enjoy a variety of petrol cars when the time is right. I don’t see why some people feel that EV’s are the enemy when we all need to remember that toxic air pollution in ...

By: Aquaracer1 : March 1st, 2024-18:43
From ICE to EV quite yet. Don’t know if I will be in 5 years either. My question involves the reports you read about how much pollution it takes to manufacture an EV. Including that process , is it really better for the environment than ICE over its lifet...

Had one for two years but it just didn’t work for me. Back to old school again
I was think of getting a BYD EV in a year or two,
By: iceheller 1945 ✌️ : March 2nd, 2024-10:08
but the charging infrastructure here is pathetic, may get a tri-star again before getting an EV or hybrid since ICE will only be phase out in 2030 here. The future is hydrogen fuel depending how the world can play catch up with the east.
