Question about inconsistencies in Polaris II E870

Jan 07, 2016,13:39 PM

Hello guys....and Happy New Year.

For Christmas I bought a little dream,
that is a JLC Polaris II from the 70s in Blue dial.

My dealer had 2 NOS watches.

The first:
Caliber 916
Ref. E870A
Serial Inner Caseback 13434xx
Serial Movement 3.264.3xx

The second:
Caliber 916
Ref. E870A
Serial Inner Caseback 13430xx
Serial Movement 2.665.2xx

My question is:
Is there a relationship between the Serial Movement and Serial Inner Case?
And between the production year and Serial Movement?
Is it possible that they have been post assembled with original parts?
Otherwise how would you explain such a big gap between Serial Movements and such a little gap between Inner Serial Case.

Thanks in advanced for your help.
Marco

Hi Marco, the E 870 was in production from 1970 to 1975.

There were 1120 watches made. The cases are very close, indeed, not the movements. What does that mean? Everything is possible, tough to be affirmative. It seems that the E 870 is the only JLC / Lecoultre Ref to use this case. Now, JLC used this movement ...

Thanks Nicolas but...

I thought that JLC like Omega matched the Mouvement Number with Serial Case. In this case if I asked for an Extract of Archive I wouldn't get any information about for example a movement replacement. Isn't it? Thanks Marco

what year does each watch belong to according to your knowledge? Thanks M And finally.... The self rotor should be signed just LeCoultre or JagerLeCoultre....

As for the movement number...

2, 6 would date your watch circa 1972 / 73. 3, 2 circa 1975.

Thanks
