176.007 - Service in Pictures

A little photo essay to pass the time while I'm nursing the man flu. Some of you may remember that a nice Omega Seamaster chrono ref 176.007 fell into my lap back in August. It was a  bit of a bargain and my lovely better half agreed to chip in as an Xmas present so I decided it should get the full spa treatment at Swiss Time Services here in the UK. Simon Freese, the workshop manager, agreed to send me snaps of work in progress (his service has been impreccable throughout) so here goes.

A bit tired looking but case edges still sharp]

The caseback seal had 'liquified' leaving a sticky black gunk in its place. Lucklily it had't found it's way into the movement which although very dry and dirty was working well.][
Dial and chrono hands all in v good nick - hour and minute hands were a bit grubby though

Pushers and crown all had perished seals and would need replaced - I'm trying not to think about previous owners DNA here - yeuch!
RL]
Case off to the lapping machine for a strip down and spruce up

[
Now for the fiddly bit, taking the movement apart, giving it a good old ultrasonic clean (amazingly nothing needed replaced) reassemble, lubricate and test for a few days before shipping it back to its' very happy owner. Simon tells me the technician that worked on it has 35 years experience working on Omegas and can fire off the ref number of pretty much every component for all Omega calibres on sight.

Et Voila!

It's now been popped on a period correct corfam rally strap with the correct buckle and has been secreted away utnil Santa comes - I think the wait will be worth it!

Cheers

Ian

Well done! I love to see a watch that is recovered to its former glory. Add to that that this chronograph is from the good old 70's. Gorgeous. Congratulations. Nilo
