An Omega in sunny spring time Sydney - The 'brick work' DeVille

I thought I'd continue my series highlighting more of my wife's Omegas. I again also grant Bill permission to choose this post for an 'editor's pick'. Hitherto, I've highlighted the brilliant chocolate DeVille (which is NOT her best Omega and that is yet to come), and today I present to you the very uncommon 'brickwork' DeVille. It's a beautiful steel watch that has real stunning presence on the wrist. Lol, full diamonds never hurt a ladies watch, did they! In terms of the collection, this one sits in the middle of the pack.  Nevertheless, we both love this Omega both for it's character and superlative tasteful design. My wife usually (but not always) chooses this watch for dressy night time occasions and tends to wear her gold Omegas casually during the daytime. This is exactly the opposite of what one might imagine to be the case, but funnily enough, we not only talk about what watch goes with what dress, but also for certain social events, we consider the politics of the situation. In fact we even consider the maturity of the company we most likely might find ourselves in. Sometimes it's better to wear a quartz watch, blend in and just pretend. Lol, other times we let others (like the boss!) think they have better watches by wearing beaters ourselves! This is an interesting topic that I'll return to at a later date, namely watches and status anxiety.

Anyway, there are lots of things to admire about this Omega, however it has an average, but very reliable and accurate, movement and the pins are a decided letdown for such a beautiful brickwork bracelet as this. If ever a bracelet deserved screws, it's this one. It's a great pity because this intricate bracelet is quite possibly the best thing about the watch. It's a striking design that goes back to all those gorgeous constellations of the 1950s. I recall telling a surprised lady friend, who generously complimented the watch by saying how fashionable it looked, that the bracelet design was more than 50 yrs old, and hence, that it was rather classic than fashionable. I gave her some further illustrations of my meaning that classic is timeless and fashionable is seasonal and that the two concepts could'nt be more contrasting. Lol, I gave her her first lesson in 'WISology'. Oh dear, anyway, the pictures don't quite capture the effect of the bracelet. The dial is mother of pearl and again the pictures don't capture the complete effect as the mother of pearl is full of texture. It's not flat as it appears in the pictures. The terrific layout is simple but very tasteful with its combination of roman numerals and diamond hour markers. The hands are lovely as is the blued steel central seconds hand. The DeVille case is wonderful as always. As I said, this is my wife's prefered dress watch because of the amazing elegance of the design. The other Omegas tend to dominate everything.

 The bracelet is quintessential Omega.

I just love this beautiful bracelet

Yeah, I guess so, since here in the States it is September and getting closer to Autumn, etc. Where are my snowshoes?! =:^{D> Outstanding watch, very 'customized'-looking! Omega ROCKS! Enjoy, and thanks for sharing...

Your 'customized' comment highlights something about Omega

Omega have no problems whatsoever in combining diverse stylistic elements drawn together from various watches from various eras. The remarkable thing is that Omega invariably succeed. Omega has a house style unique to itself. This is a strength for Omega ...
