Omega Chronometre 30T2RG - Original Dial?

 By: rshroff : May 24th, 2012-20:48
Dear 'Cognoscenti' I have seen this dial for an 30T2 RG, with sub-second function -- it really intrigued me to the degree that I could not make a decision as to whether the dial was factory original or not. What really set my bells and whistles off was th...

Dial looks ok to me

 By: MSNWatch : May 24th, 2012-20:57
But I would defer to Erich/Bill/Franco on this. The absence of swiss or swiss made was common for the early manual wind chronometres (and the non-chronometre versions as well). Mike

Hard decision...

 By: mac_omega : May 24th, 2012-22:26
Hi Ronnie, with this dial is a hard decision... I have compared it with the pictures in my "data base" and I did not find any with a bisected subdial - this feature makes me think it might be a redial. The proportion of the script is also suspicious... ei...

position of "chronometre" on dial?

 By: long71 : May 24th, 2012-22:51
I recently dipped my toes in the 30T2RG waters, and acquired a 1946 chronometre. It arrived a few days ago, and I have yet to do anything with it, other than wind it up and monitor timekeeping (it seems to have lost around 15-30 seconds over a couple of d...

The position of the word "Chronometre"

 By: mac_omega : May 24th, 2012-23:22
Hi Conor, The position of the word "Chronometre" usually is printed between the Omega logo and the word "Omega" - speaking strictly of 30 T2 Rg (SC) chronometers though! On early examples you will find the word "chronometre" as an "arch" above the Omega l...

Hi Conor - Please upload photos of your 30T2 RG

 By: rshroff : May 24th, 2012-23:24
Hi Conor Please upload photos of your watch including dial and movement. Then we will be in a much better position to tell you more about your newly acquired piece and advise you. Many thanks. Kind Regards Ronnie

Yes, this is an older redial!

 By: rshroff : May 25th, 2012-00:36
Thanks for the photos. Yes, this is an older redial. As Erich correctly pointed out in his previous post, the word "Chronometre" should be printed between the Omega logo and the word "Omega." I would be inclined to refinish the dial as per original specs....

+1, and a poor job

Accuracy

 By: long71 : May 25th, 2012-01:55
In getting a proper redial done, clearly achieving maximum accuracy is the key objective. From a brief perusal, I've seen two main types of Arabic dials with subseconds. In both cases, the subdial is marked with simple minute markers and heavier 5 minute ...

Thanks Erich

 By: rshroff : May 24th, 2012-23:17
Hi Erich Many thanks for your assessment of the dial. I checked the ? symbol and "CHRONOMTRE" and "OMEGA" script against photos of original dials and scripta are perfect. Each of the letters of the word "CHRONOMTRE" are exactly as they should be and pla...

Is the minute track...

 By: mac_omega : May 24th, 2012-23:32
Hi Ronnie, as I admitted it is a though call to make a final judgment... An additional question: Is the minute track done in a different silver color (two-tone, mirrored)? or is it the same color as the rest of the dial? Sometimes this is hard to tell jus...

Comparison of "OMEGA" script

 By: rshroff : May 24th, 2012-23:56
Here is a comparison of the "OMEGA" script. The watch on the left has a pointed "A" whereas the watch on right has a flat top"A". The question is - is any onyone out there with a belief and experience that this type of piece can be an original dial with t...

the flat A dial is a re- dial too......

 By: watch.out1 : May 25th, 2012-05:05
look at the minute track... kind regards. achim

But ....

 By: Franco : May 25th, 2012-12:31
... the fact that the A is flat i snot in itself meaningful. About half of my chronometres has flat A, and the other half pointed.

I think is an old redial ...

 By: Franco : May 25th, 2012-00:44
.... but a very good one. When I saw the watch posted by rshof at auction, within few minutes the feeling was not right. The main things I find under discussion are the outside track (would be reassured if of a different colour/brushed silver) and the hai...

nice redial... for me the minute track gives it away....

 By: watch.out1 : May 25th, 2012-03:05
i`d keep it; bethges re dial will not be much better. causemann is the way to go with chronometer dials. ask him and specify with pictures, what you want. nice watch ! kind regards. achim

No longer

 By: Franco : May 30th, 2012-14:41
...Causemann is quite sloppy now, aftersix months he produced for me a pretty average chronometre redial. Years ago he was much better.

Am I seeing things...

 By: kyle L : May 25th, 2012-14:44
or does the minute track get thicker and thinner?...
