Hi,
I am new to this forum. Very interesting. I found an earlier post regarding the 1994 Omega Speedmaster "Lillehammer Olympics" with a question regarding production numbers. I just responded to that old post, but thought I could make a separeate post of it as well. Now and then I see some of these watches for sale - and nearly always there are misunderstandings regarding the limited number for the quartz version.
Myself, I have a full size chronometer version number "8X/194" complete with everything and never used. Was originally sold in Zürich December 28 1993. Beautiful watch and fun to have as I visited the Olympic games back in 1994. Fantastic event. The watch comes with 5 sharkskin straps with the same colours as the five colours of the olympic logo.
Omega in Bienne, Switzerland has been kind enough to provide me with copies of some original brochures and sales material in both french and german language (both official languages in Switzerland I guess). I can inform you about the following:
Chronometer, 18K gold:
Production: 49 pieces midsize and 49 fullsize worldwide
Original price mid size: CHR 7.494 (ref.no. 2651.21)
Original price full size: CHF 8.494 (ref.no. 2631.21)
Chronometer, stainless steel:
Production: 194 pieces midsize and 194 full size (on the back the number is engaved as follows: XX/194). There is a certificate d'origin stating the limited number of 194 and which number your watch is out of these 194 pieces. The chronometer version is delivered in a tan leather box.
Original price mid size: CHF 1.994 (symbolic price for the 1994 olympics) (ref.no 2852.21)
Original price full size: CHF 1.994 (ref.no. 2832.21)
Cal. 1109
Quartz version, stainless steel:
Production: NOT limited. On the back you will only find the production number XX and not as above XX/194. You should also not find a certificate stating the limitation to 194 and which number your watch is of 194. This is due to the fact that the quartz-version was NOT limited production and therefore carries the running production number engraved on the back. This information comes directly from the Omega factory in Bienne. This information is also printed on some very nice brochures/marketing material. The quartz-version is delivered in a dark fabric box.
Original price mid size: CHF 1.794 (ref.no. 2862.21)
Original price full size: CHF 1.794 (ref.no. 2842.21)
Cal. 1438
As you see - all prices was to end with 94 for the '94 olympics!
By the way, the occation for the watch was as official equipment provider for the swiss olympic team and not as official time keeper at the Lillehammer olympics in Norway in 1994. That job was awarded to SEIKO. On the dial you will see both the swiss flag and the olympic symbol as the occation was the swiss olympic team as earlier mentioned.
Hope that this was an interesting piece of information for anyone interested in these watches
