I am not sure, but in my collection, the one on left is the ealiest that I have (Ref 2516) dated sometime in 1949. The one on your right is the most sought after these days _Pie Pan with  Chronometer Officially Certified _Cross Hair with Onyx Inserts  Caliber 564.

18K dial is prefered by some but easier to find.

14390 caseback?

 By: diamondjim : May 22nd, 2010-13:09
Hi, I just received this watch and I was wondering if this has been modified (polished) because the Hippocampus seems to be missing. I took a flyer on this because the seller couldn't open the back and had no idea what the movement might be. She also stat...

dial and caseback

Well, the real experts should weigh in, but since there is no "Seamaster" on the dial, and no monster on the back, I'd vote the watch is correct. The vintage DB lists ref 14390 as a Seamaster model, but also notes that the ref did come with different dial...

Graham, funny you should send your observation at this time, I just spotted it after you mentioned it. It's hard to see in person but the photo brings out the faint circular outline very well. The watch runs very well and with a little cleaning and a new ...

Graham, now that you point it out, I can see the ring on the back as well. Jim, hunting down a correct dial for the model might take some time, but might not be impossible. 14390 doesn't seem to be an incredibly rare reference. You might try googling arou...
