Release of the book "Moonwatch Only"

Jun 21, 2014,01:43 AM

I have to confess that I almost don't know anything about the Speedmaster except some basic data. But of course, I consider it as one of the very few true iconic watches in the watchmaking history.

Two non professional of the watch industry Speedmaster lovers, the French engineer Anthony Marquié and the Swiss biologist Grégoire Rossier decided several years ago to write a kind of bible dedicated about the Speedmaster. And here it comes now: after 3 yearts of hard work, the book has just been released (the editor being Watchprint).

Actually, it is a true bible since it is made of around 500 pages full of information and technical data. But what I appreciated the most by browsing the book was its clever and sound organization: after the introduction which allows us to dive into the Speedmaster roots and history, the other parts go deeper into the details. The most impressive part, in my point of view is the second one dedicated to the components and accessories (calibers, bezels, pushers and so on...). So it is easy to find a specific information with such book organization. I would like to also highlight the excellent legibility and the clear way the pictures and data are displayed on the pages.

The third part is dedicated to the presentation of the features of the models and their features. The last part, before the appendices, gathers some advices to people who want to purchase a Speedmaster.

A friend of mine gave me a few days ago to meet the authors  and he also offered me the book: so I would like to thank him a lot for this nice gesture. I had a very nice dinner with Anthony and Grégoire and I was very impressed by the energy they put in this project. But once again, it is a question of passion and you have a true passion for watches, things become easier!

Please note that the book is available at Watchprint in French, English and Italian.

Maybe I will be hit by the Speedmaster virus now!

and the least we can say is that it may be interesting a huge crowd of Speed fans. Thanks for the news Fx. Cheers, Mark PS: I don't recognize the watch you're wearing :p

You should be able . . .

. . . to fix that problem, FX. Funny about the timing of this thread; I just spoke with my friend, mrsnak, earlier today about regaining custody of my old Mk II. Problem is, he's as fond of it as I am! ...

Wow, I didn't know Anthony wrote a book!

Like you, not a big fan of the Speedie, except when it comes to some very early refs, 2915, 2998, and 105 003. Well, all straight lugs cases. So maybe I should buy the book to discover the one I will get? Even if I already have a small idea.... Best, Nico...

Not a fan of the Mk II, Nicolas? As much . . .

. . . as I respect the Speedmaster genre, out of all them, it's the Mk II that makes my heart skip a beat. Can't get those fluid lines . . . . . . out of my mind . . . ...

This is uncanny

Is that you Archie? ...

If you've seen his videos...

I imagine you'd agree that that is probably the least of his practices that you would be embarrassed to adopt.

This was my first thought too when I saw the picture.

Didn't he actually coin the malapropism 'man on the moon watch'?

Looks like very interesting read!
