OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Apollo 11 (45th anniversary Limited Edition)
Jul 09, 2014,10:44 AM
July 1969, human beings first set
foot on the moon, specifically two NASA astronaunts, Buzz Aldrin and
Neil Armstrong with the Apollo 11. Two OMEGA Speedmasters were worn
during this misson critical flight. While Neil Armstrong left his
Speedmaster aboard the Lunar Landing Module (as a backup to the
electronic timekeeping system), Buzz Aldrin has his strapped around his
spacesuit when he was outside the Module.
To commemorate the 45th anniversary of this space endeavour, OMEGA issues 1969 pieces of OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Apollo 11 (in special packaging).

42mm diameter brushed grade-2 Titianium case with a 18K Sedna gold bezel.
The dial changes with different angle of lighting...
The colour scheme seems to have a story behind it.
The
grey titanium colour is sort of associating with the colours of the
moon and also the Lunar Module which also has some gold shield, thus the
Sedna gold bezel.
The black PVD dial is a reflection of the surface
of the Module after surviving the intense heat during re-entry into the
Earth's atmosphere.
The
black PVD dial is fabricated by sort of subtractive process - laser
ablation. The laser removed material surrounding the logo, subdial
numerals and minute-track. The hour and minute hands, subdial-hands and
the tapered hour markers are of 18K red gold. The chronograph
second-hand is red gold-plated.
Super-Luminova is applied on the hour, minute and chronograph second-hand, also beside the hour indexes.
Box-form sapphire crystal with both sides anti-reflective coated, greatly reduced glare.
The Sedna gold bezel is bonded with a matt black ceramic ring with tachymeter scale (done with their Ceragold technology).
Matt pushers and crown to match the brush-finished of the Titanium case.
The
screw-in solid caseback is with the iconic Seahorse emblem and engraved
with the serial number along with the commemorative details.
The case's water-resistant rating is 5 bar (50metres).
Within is fitted with the manual-winding 'Moonwatch' chronograph Calibre 1861, with a power reserve of 48 hours.
The strap which comes along is a coated nylon NATO strap with a brushed Titanium texture like the caseband.
