What will be your first/next/last Omega?

Sep 04, 2014,05:02 AM

Team,

Post here what will be your first/next/last Omega.

Two days back I put an order for the Seamaster 300 Master.

First time that I do this (put an order) but I could not resist this watch.

(Picture from Omega site).

No date (Amanico's disease), ultra modern movement (Co Axial, non-magnetic 15000 Gauss tested, etc.) using a case/dial/hands that brings us to the glorious 60's.

I had a vintage one but the bezel was not original and I prefer modern incarnations of vintage watches (maintenance, etc.).

The Boutique says that it will be here in November.
Hard to wait.

Meanwhile I need to search a strap for it (metal bracelets are a no no for me). Suggestions?

Post your next dream here.

Cheers,

Nilo

I'm really hot for this one ! (photo KirillYuzh) ...

That was the first watch that I tried to get on an auction ...

And I lost by a quid. Years later I learned that I was competing with a friend that won the watch! They show up here from time to time, but is hard to get a mint one. Good luck with your chase. Cheers, Nilo

Why, oh why . . .

. . . did I ever . . . . . . let go of mine? :-( ...

Tropic seems to be an option and ...

 By: nilomis : September 4th, 2014-06:39
It so happens that I have one on my strap inventory. Vintage, of course. But the Seamaster 300 Master lug width is 20mm and my Tropic is 19mm. About NATO, I'm not a particular fan of those but I also have some. Let's wait and see. Cheers, Nilo

19mm is not a big deal, even if it is 20 mm between the lugs.

 By: amanico : September 4th, 2014-06:44
As for the Nato, it dépends on the Watch. This one is made for Natos! Best, Nicolas

I know that 1mm is nothing but ...

 By: nilomis : September 4th, 2014-06:46
With my OCD, this 0.50mm gap is unacceptable. Cheers, Nilo

If it had to be my last Omega, then it would be this one.

I need a Speedmaster, early reference, to complete my Holy Duo: Credit picture, Roberto. ...

Very hard to get one ...

In good shape. That's the reason that I got the Speedmaster FOIS (First Omega In Space). Perfect re edition, including case and lug width. Got a Shell Cordovan strap that is perfect to it. Need to post some pics, along with a "Strap Addiction" post that I...

I would love to read a review of this watch !

I was lucky enough to buy my 2998 many years ago, before the Omegamania auction ...

I will do...

Go to borrow the original vintage from a dear friend that has one and compare. Thanks, Nilo

Was lucky to find this one a few years back.....

 By: Darren : September 4th, 2014-07:07
I only have a few vintage timepieces currently, but this is one I think I'll always have. Next up for me may be my first modern Omega - the very SM 300 that was the subject of the original post. I think Omega nailed it with this one - just perfect. Darren...

That's not luck but ...

Some sort of a miracle. Never had a chance to get one like yours. Congratulations. Cheers, Nilo

How about black/grey sharkskin?

 By: cazalea : September 4th, 2014-08:25
If you find the right color, it adds a touch of novelty and sportiness to the watch you don't get with other leather textures (like salmon!) Mike This might be my last Omega unless I get inspired - and the one you have chosen is VERY VERY NICE ...

Sharkskin is an option ...

 By: nilomis : September 4th, 2014-08:49
I never had one sharkskin strap. About Omega, just as a cookie advert here, is impossible to not have another. Cheers, Nilo

+1 . . .

. . . and truly, what could be more fitting for a Seamaster than the master of the sea? ...

What was the poor shark ...

 By: nilomis : September 5th, 2014-16:39
That produced this skin? Jaws? Now serious. Very cool and matches the SM perfectly. Cheers, Nilo

. . . could you ask an easier question next time? :-) Seriously, there are countless candidates for my collection. A few no-brainers: the 2014 DeVille Trésor . . . . . . the 2012 Olympics SM . . . . . . and its 2012 Speedmaster counterpart, the ref 2998 r...

But not for me. I'm not a gold person, don't know why. Cheers, Nilo

First generation Flightmaster would be a stretch target....

 By: DivingT : September 4th, 2014-12:27
....But, more realistically I would like a Seamaster 120, to join my SM300 and Ploprof cheers Tony

Believe me ...

 By: nilomis : September 4th, 2014-13:37
That is much more easy here to acquire a nice first generation Flightmaster (910?) than the SM 120. Cheers, Nilo

 By: nilomis : September 5th, 2014-18:54
Not with the "master" movement, of course. My observations after a very short examination. Great construction, outstanding case/dial and a movement that is one of the top chronograph movements ever. My only gripe is that under certain light conditions it ...
