Review-Omega: Omega Aqua Terra Teck Annual Calendar - an "on-the-wrist" review

An "On-The-Wrist" Review of the Omega Aqua Terra Teck Annual Calendar   By Art Dakessian   © August 2009   This report of the Omega Aqua Terra Teck annual calendar begins with a digression: I feel more comfortable labeling my comments as an 'appreciation' rather than a 'review' because a review should be exhaustive, detailed, and most importantly, objective.  These elements are missing here, partially because of the limited resources and capabilities at my disposa...

Review-Omega: Part II: Omega Ploprof 600 M and 1200 M comparison

Hello everyone..Well my photo essay was cut short when my 600m stem broke.  I want to thank the group of watchmakers at the NYC Omega boutique they were able to get the crown to screw down.  I have gotten emails asking about the case side by side comparison of the 600M and 1200M.  The numbers that I published are correct (see part I of this article).  For better shots I removed the bracelets on both watches. Strap width opening on the 600 M 23.8 mm . Strap width opening on the ...

Omega Basel 2009 Novelties Preview in Bangkok (May 30)

The event took place nearly a month ago but I never quite found the time to post these pics properly so here we go.It all began with a simple phone call from Omega Thailand. They said they were bringing some of the pieces launched at Basel this year to Bangkok. Being as enthuastic about Omega as ever, I required no encouragement to say yes.The invite arrived one week prior to the event. I was assured they did not call the wrong person. The venue for this event was Grand Hyatt Erawan --a 5-star hotel in down...

Hi all Well I got a fedex box from Omega today , but I did not get home until very late and my late night photo outing ended on a sour note....But we will get to that later....Drum roll.... First time on the net , at least to the best of my knowledge... A first look at the new 1200m Omega dive watch and a look back at the classic 600m from my collection....I took some quick measurements of the case size...One of the things I noticed is on the 600m the crystal is just under the level of the bezel. ...

Review-Omega: The Seamaster caliber 352 a collector's view...

Hello everyone....We all collect differently.  I was always drawn to Omega's  Seamaster.  The first generation bumper Seamasters were introduced in 1948 using a caliber 28.10 bumper movement family.  In 1949 Omega moved over to the 3 digit caliber reference and the 330 and 340 ( sub  seconds) and the 350 ( Sweep  seconds ) calibers.   As a collector I would love to collect an example of the entire  Seamaster line.  But reality rears it head and I have to "co...

Bill has asked me to re-post a contribution I made to MWR the other day and I hope you find it to be of some interest.... I knew the 'HA-60' RCAF Omega existed… Bill Sohne has an excellent example of this watch, in fact Bill Sohne is the only person I know of who has one. Yes, there are other examples of RCAF Omega which have been documented on this site but...

I still remember vividly that humid evening of July 13th 2001 in Beijing , when I was just a wee college student in the States back home for the summer. When IOC's Samaranch announced that Beijing had won the bid for the 2008 Olympics, I let out a shriek, then immediately grabbed the phone, and with violently t...

Some Omega Chocolate

The Omega Speedmaster Broadarrow 1957 in rose gold and steel.   I am amazed at how far Omega has taken the Speedmaster line, which started with a no-nonsense watch worn to you-know-where (Omega doesn't let us forget that); this Broadarrow 1957 has all the trademarks of a Speedmaster - the lugs, bezel, domed crystal - yet it looks completely different. What do you think? Click here  to see more. - SJX     ...

Review-Omega: Omega Aqua Terra in the desert field test

The post on the Seamaster in the wild reminded me of a brief article I once wrote on the Aqua Terra's performance during a trip through the Sahara desert. I could not find that article neither here, nor on the thePuristS site, and considered it lost. However, a search via Google produced some links to it, and it apparently is buried somewhere among the old materials of the PuristS, but not here at PuristSPro.If you don't mind, I would like to republish it here:In 2002, I had the opportunity to test some wat...

Review-Omega: A 9 year story - The watch that almost got away!

Hello everyone....Back in 1999 I came across a odd looking Omega on ebay.   I was very interested in buying the watch.  I placed what I thought was a high bid for the watch.   The auction did not make its reserve price.  I  then proceeded to contact the seller.   We had a few back and forth emails but was not able to "close the deal".   i said to him please let me know if plan on selling in the future.   I would send an email every 6 months or...

1960's Seamaster Chronometer with Day and Date

I first learned of this particular model a few years ago after speaking to several watch collecting buddies. Then after reading an article dedicated to this model in the October 2002 issue of WatchTime magazine, I decided to try and find a nice example for myself. After going through several different examples in solid stainless steel cases and gold cap cases, this NOS solid 18k yellow gold version with attached Omega bracelet came into my possession. The case on this Seamaster Chronometer is just fantastic....

The last of the manual wind time only chronometers....

Hi allAs Omega entered the 1960s the demand for manual wind watches was on the decrease.  The sales of automatic watches was on the rise, time only, time and date, and even chronometers. By 1962-63 Omega retired tbe 30 mm movement line.  They replaced it with the caliber 60x line.  The 600 series caliber is a stripped down 55x automatic.  Most Omega collectors hold the 552 as one of Omegas best calibers period. With all the above said the future of Omega’s manual wind time only chro...
