In my experience, the "US Army" marked Ref. 2179 are all -/2 or -/3 casebacks.  Mine is a -/5, but has a military provenance via an Armed Forces basketball tournament in 1946:

I've been able to determine from comtemporary news accounts that the tournament took place, but not whether my original owner played in it.

On the Ref. 2384, I've seen only the -/1 version with the engraving, although there may be others.
