A foolish consistency?

 By: NT931 : July 12th, 2015-01:19
I consider myself a newcomer in watch collecting, having only been at this hobby for the past 3 years. Much like Kolosstt's journey , my initial steps were somewhat meandering - intermittent missteps, occasionally on the right path, but always learning, a...

A gorgeous collection and a great picture!

I love the way you built it. Similar trends... but so different watches! Fx

Great collection!

The Vacheron is for me the finest one. If the Patek didn't have the date, I would have ranked it first. The Lange is a sure value, and the JLC is the smart one. Excellent taste, my friend. What's next? ;) Best, Nicolas

NT931 Congratulations! Your realisation this weekend of the consistency is the beginning of the next phase of delectation. The 'purest' watch there is the Grand Seiko followed closely by the A.Lange & Söhne. Live Long and Prosper, MTF

lovely collection...

your collection is rather consistent in terms of color, function and brand (variety). Glad to see your tasteful choice of selection. Hope you are enjoying the journey too. Enjoy them in good health! Cheers !

Of course your wife hit the nail!

 By: anaesdoc : July 12th, 2015-04:46
Hi NT931, as often we have to confess our wives are usually right even if we do not readily admit it. At the same time your son is also right in discovering the differences between your 5 watches. They are different, but of the same kind - both are right ...

Fantastic collection, and great to see all these together. Nice visual reference!

 By: watchthatman : July 12th, 2015-07:58
For me, it's Patek number one, even with the date window, and Lange close number two. GS looks very clean, and as Nico said the JLC is the smart choice! Congrats!

Your excellent photo reminds me of a similar, but more meager

effort that I made about 10 years ago. I ended up swapping the Gerber for cash that I poured into a gaggle of three-handed, white-dialed Grand Seikos (somehow missed the PP and VC boat). Don't worry - if you are meant to branch out into complications and ...

of fine watches indeed. The Vacheron Constantin is my favourite. I understand that you're not into chronographs, however, what about the "Historique Chronographe" from VC? It is 37mm and in platinum would, in my opinion, be a fantastic complement to your ...

Emerson did qualify that with "adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines"

.....he didn't mention watch collectors :)- fantastic compact collection that reflects personal values and traits...as a proper collection should do. enjoy your hobby, what does Emerson know. Best, Horo

Your collections shows that you had a particular style that you liked

The fact that you listened to the advise and guidance you did not stray and kept true to what you like as is clearly show in your picture. That will make a collector smile as you stayed true to yourself and did not fall in the traps of fashion, popularity...

Thank you everyone!

... for your many kind comments and suggestions, and for reassuring me that I'm not obsessively mad :) It's fascinating for me how each of you has a different favourite among the five watches, and for very different reasons! Personally, my favourite is th...

.... Then I wish we have more fools in this world. Thanks for sharing your collection of utterly breath-taking pieces. Horological purity personified!

Not foolish at all.

Each watch has its own traits. Each is very different. All are substantial pieces that, I would think, anyone here would be happy to have. Three-hand watches are the backbone of many collections, and are the essence of watch-making and watch-collecting. C...

Very nice shot you made there NT931, In this ensemble it is the VC for me. Beautiful hands and outstanding dial. In fact, your son has the right spirit. It is very different and this because of far more than the different strap colours. So nothing foolish...

I like white...a lot.

Looking at your collection, each watch very stands on its own merits. They're really, at least when viewed from a watch nerd's perspective, substantially different from one another, notwithstanding that they all have a white face and similar case size. Yo...

The Lange, Seiko and Vacheron get my vote. I would be very happy with anyone of them. The Patek and the Jaeger are a hair too busy for me. A fantastic single-theme collection.

You have a curator's eye for watch collecting and I agree with everyone here that this white on white themed collection is spectacular. I would be interested to know if you made any mistakes in your three year watch collecting journey? Any breguet marine ...
