Vintage Omega Seamaster 300 project completed

Hi,

Just before leaving for the summer vacation I was lucky to find a beautiful SM300 I had been fishing for some time!...

Given the incredible beauty of this watch, and although it was initially a tool watch being a diver, I think it has an incredible level of Class and can be worn in business occasions with a suit if dressed adequately.

So I started thinking about a nice suit, sorry strap for my SM300.  I like trying to match the strap with the watch, so i thought about it and went to visit one of my favorite places, ABP, with a brief:

-Strap has to match with some elements of the dial, usually, with these kind of vintages I try to play with the hands or the indexex or both, or with the bezel, or with the dial itself or all at the same time.

-Usually the indexes turn yellow with these vintages as yours which is beautiful, but this one is more blue/grey.

-Strap has to be dressy enough to be worn in formal business occasions

-As this is a diver, I would like the strap to have some link with the sea, after all it is a Seamaster!  (I couldn't find any Sea Horse leather though)

So, here is the result:

My Sea Master 300 Model K14755 Cal 552 from 1962 with is new Grey Polished Sting Ray strap,

Enjoy...

Matt

Hi Matt, this is one of the most beautiful straps I have ever seen - it matches perfectly! This can indeed be worn for official or business occasions as well as casual... I think in former art deco times this stuff was even used for covering furniture and...

Galuchat!...

En français! Indeed, sounds a bit more fancy than Sting Ray Fish! And the funny thing is most people have no clue about what it is when you talk about Galuchat (chat is cat!)!!! Matt

Yes, of cause!

Hi Matt, yes, of cause you are right! I am growing old now  losing important facts out of my brain... it is a fantastic material anyway! Could you please  send me a PM and share some facts like address of the supplier, costs, waiting time, etc. ...

That's quite a contrast between . . .

. . . an ostensibly purposeful watch and a decidedly dressy strap, Matt. Funny thing, I'm moving in the opposite direction with my Seiko Sea Lion; it was on an alligator strap . . . . . . and now I'm having a shark leather strap made to fit. I hope this w...

very compeling!?

Are you challenging me now Art? I have to think!...I'll try to come up with something, I am not travelling this week so...in Paris...anyway, we'll see on friday...Matt

That’s a great looking Seiko, Art!

And very interesting with day and date on opposite sides! Best Blomman

Thanks, blomman . . .

. . . it was Dad's everyday watch for decades, and brings a smile every time I wear it. The shark strap has been prepared but requires another deployant that accommodates the additional thickness, so it'll be another few weeks before it's back on my wrist...

Stunning, Matt! :)

Great comb! Maybe not my personal preference, but very good looking! And even if Sting Ray would not be my first choice, the watch definitely is right up my alley…! Congrats! Best Blomman

an inspired choice Matt.

strangely i have a grey polished Galuchet the same as yours which i've used on my Railmaster, but i've never even considered one for an SM300 and i've got 3 of them. i've used steel mesh, dark brown shell cordovan, light brown cordovan Nato and ordinary n...

Thanks for your answer Graham, I see we share the same ideas...Indeed, I think it is really cool to push the idea to the end in terms of customization. Playing with strap combinations is really cool as well as it enables to show very different personaliti...

thanks matt, that Shell Cordovan nato is supremely flexible. it fits sm300's, speedmasters, railmasters, in fact anything a bit toolish. the mesh on the thin bezel is actually an original Omega item made especially for the SM300 at 19mm. i dont think i've...

...to see stingray paired with the SM 300, but the overall effect is very handsome with more than a touch of elegance. Nicely done, Matt. Enjoy the watch! Cheers, Daos

Totally unexpected...
