Hi Bill, hi all,
well, white elephants are rrrrrrrrrrrrrare as we all know...
Bill, I already knew the story behind the WDR from your earlier posting and I watched the auction as many of us did (of course).
Well, I must admit that I would have liked to buy the watch but not at any price.
Speaking candidly I am not the guy for military watches and even these "derivatives" do not attract me so much that I would be ready to spend more than five figures...
I have a near mint vintage Railmaster, a Speedy, and maybe I will be lucky enough to complete the holy trinity with a SM diver one day.
But this is my personal taste. I would rather spend a considerable sum on a white gold Grande Luxe Conny or a platinum early bumper chronometer or a white gold
SM DD chronometer with original white gold bracelet... On these watches I would "jump over my budget line"...
We know about 2 certain pieces of WDR now, but I think there might be some more sitting around and every new one which will unearth will "correct" the price towards south I guess.
Don´t get me wrong! It is a terribly rare and desirable piece from the point of collectibility but not from the aesthetics for me to force me spend so much money... a four figure personal limit for
me Just my thoughts...
kind regards
Erich
