It is time for post# 700 - and you know...

Mar 05, 2011,06:04 AM

Hi all,

oops #700 approached nearly a bit too fast...  I should have prepared better in advance...

Those of you who visit the Omega forum frequently know that I have established a tradition to celebrate every 100th post with a special watch.

Here we go!

First I want to start with a not so common view - just as a teaser...

Many of you will be able to guess what it is...

The movement is in vg condition and is keeping excellent time for it´s age.

What was included with the watch was this Polish warranty document - sorry can´t tell you what it says as I do not speak any Polish - maybe somebody can help?

Anyway - it looks very beautiful and a little old fashioned...

Does this document disclose important facts for those of you who know how to interpret it?

Let us turn it over!

The stamp in the upper right corner reveals some more information for the WISs... It was sold in Poland just only 15 days after

Hitler started the offense on Poland and so started the second world war. So this watch is a real historical piece indeed!

Do you already know what it is? Bill? Franco? Mike? Desmond? Hoi?

Now let us see more of the watch...

The picture below was taken at the "blue hour" (on a metal sheet) when colors change dramatically. Thus the blue tint.

And here is an additional picture without the crystal to show you the all original dial in it´s entire beauty (oh, how I love black dials!).

I can not tell or show you more for the moment.

So guys chime in and have an educated guess!

I will reveal the secret a little later!

Kind regards and enjoy the pictures!

HAGWE

Erich

Hi Graham, I pressed the upload button too early by accident before the post was finished! As you are permanently online you just caught only the beginning! Now it is finished and you can enjoy the pictures. Kind regards Erich

i'm not going to guess anything. i'll just say that its a great looker

even the loss of lume in the hands makes it look better as it has gold markers and gold skeleton hands on black dial. a very nice looker indeed and the history makes it that little bit more special. best G

If I were to guess

One of the first run 30T2 movements produced - I'm guessing 8,9xx,xxx movement serial number which would go with the year 1939 - the birth year of the classic 30mm manual wind movement.

I meant to say 30T1

And it looks to be in case ref. 2186

that is quick..

you are very swift in reaching #700. The condition of this extremely attractive piece is astonishing. From the face it could be an early cal.30. The date on the certificate however would imply that is a little too soon for that. Lacking any reference for ...

Please be patient for a while until the others...

Hi Ben, Please be patient for a little while until the others have had their chances for a guess. I give you one more hint: case size is large at 37,5 mm... I must admit it is a little tricky - I will explain later why! kind regards Erich

in that case (pun intended)...

a caliber 35.5 Lépine would just fit with a little help (from a shoe-horn). At the other hand it might be a in-house made "hobby project" using a small movement? Wishing for you however it is an original piece all the same. You' ve made me curious no...

Very interesting watch...

Hi Erich Excellent watch! Sorry i could not post sooner... been running all over the place yesterday and worked all day today as well.. To be honest, I would have assumed the serial number on the certificate was the case. With the timing of the dated rece...

Before buying the watch I did...

Hi Bill, thank you for your kind comments - I knew you would like it! Before buying the watch I did some homework and I also remembered your post about your watch... did comparison with your serial##... I also have an essay in an old watch magazine about ...

Maybe when I get to 700 posts...

I'll be able to spot a vintage case and identify the reference at 100 yards. But I'm not quite there yet. I can see that the movement is one of the early 30mm variants without the shock protection. I would guess a serial number under 10 million based on t...

Grumio is right,

it is a cal.30 after all. Didn't recognise it immediately as you hardly ever see this (cadran)side of the movement. The number on the certificate must be the case serial. Very early '30' movements start with 8'965' million.

I am very impressed!

Hello Guys, I am very impressed of your knowledge and intelligence! It was not an easy call... Now I am going to unveil the secret behind. What was tricky in this case? Usually the number in the warranty paper is the serial# of the movement. This mislead ...

Thanks for showing Erich,

very interesting to learn that mid-september '39 these then brand-new pieces had found their way already into Poland. I wonder whether the existing threatening situation and/or military authorities might have played part in a speedy delivery, when orderin...

Hi Ben, thank you for your kind comments. This is an interesting though regarding the delivery to Poland... I have been on the hunt for a first run Cal.30 for a long period and was lucky to find this. I think it is not a high financial value behind this w...
