I had a lot of difficulties to join the ranks when it comes to the Speedie...
The major problem is that, in France, everybody considers the Speedie as a summary of Horology...
So, if you don't have your Speedie, you know nothing, you are nothing, and you don't understand nothing to watches.
As a rebel I am, I swore I will never get this watch, as I didn't want to look like these guys.
But hey, only fools never change their mind...
So, while I am tempting to build a small collection of Omega Watches, I fell on this early catalogue from the mid 50ies, presenting the CK 2913, along with the CK 2914 and 2915...The Holy Trinity.
" Holy Trinity "... What a concept!
I first began with a SM 300 from ...( Sorry, Graham... ) '64.
Then, the same Graham made me discover the charm of the SM 300 with the thin bezel.
So, I got, some months ago, a nice 14 755.
SM 300 from '64, 14755 from '62...2 watches were still missing: The Speedie, and the Railmaster.
The Railmaster is still in my wish list, a nice CK 2913 would make my day.
The Speedie?
Damn, there is not only one, but so many!
Which one to get?
Straight lugs, or assymetrical case?
I decided to go as close as possible to the roots, so straight lugs for me.
But which one, as there are still so many!
By order of preference: The CK 2915, or more precisely one of them, as there were, once again, several versions.
The 2998 is a more reasonnable compromise, but, like the for the CK 2915, it seems that I missed the train, and that the prices reached the sky...
So, what else?
Finally, I found it.
A 105 003.
From what I understood, this is a kind of Transitional Speedmaster, which was available for a very few years ( 1963 / 1966 ).
Still straight lugs, this reference borrowed the 2998 dial ( if I got it correctly ), no " professional " on the dial, a nice patina, and let's not forget the " motor ", the famous 321, which was housed in prestigious watches such as the Vacheron Constantin or the Patek Philippe Chronos.
Cherry on the cake, it came on its original bracelet!
Looking forward to complete my " Holy Trinity ", I can proudly wear my Patek Vacheron Speedie...
Best ot All,
Nicolas
