ah Richard, another purist from '64. there are a
lot of us so there must have been many dark and cold nights in the winter of '63
:-0
if your looking for a '64 Omega it will be
difficult as i've made it my task to buy them all :-)
all joking aside, you have 2 very good choices
with the speedie for that year. the 105.003 that Nicolas and i have which is the
last flat lug model and the 105.012 which is the first assymetric model. i also
luckily have one of those.
always look for one with 64 stamped inside the
caseback as the movement numbers cannot be relied upon catagorically. on Chucks
site there is a page that gives the speedmaster serial numbers by year which are
different to omega normal issue numbers. for example a normal omega would be
21mil, but a speedie would be 22mil.
interestingly, although i've not seen anything
written down about it and i dont remember from seeing Nicolas' Sm300's, but they
seem to be different as well. i have 3 from 64, 1 thin bezel and 2 thick
bezel and they all have 23mil movements. i've looked at many others and
they all have 23mil movements, but i've only bought watches with 64 inside the
caseback just to be sure.
i wish you luck with your hunt and if you want
assistance you know where i am.
best
Graham
