Hi Ruckdee and other Omega fans
Sorry to have not replied earlier, what bugs me is that first the service interval with the coax was said to be 10 years , then reduced to 8 years and finally reduced to 6 years? So what is the real benefit of a coaxial movement if it can't work 20 years nonstop like a vintage cal 1011 or cal 1001 without servicing? I am not even counting the problem of sudden stoppage with the 2500c variant. I think quality isn't the same because it is build by ETA. If you go back to ETA origins, you should know that it has always been a middle of the range movement manufacture.
Quality wise AS movements were much superior to them, not without reason blancpain used them so massively in all their lines of watches from the 50's till the early 80's. When I pay a very big sum of money in a watch, I expect full reliability, not average or good but perfection. Rolex perhaps hasn't implemented the coaxial on their movements but at least they work 20 years without showing weaknesses or accuracy problems unlike ETAs.
The big difference with a vintage Omega movement is easily recognizable, movement finish, winding system and durability were better in the vintage models. If I buy a +4000$ watch that has a sudden stoppage in less than a year, I call that a failure and a very poor piece of engineering. I am extremely nitpicking perhaps too much and I have zero tolerance for abnormal failure rate or too big accuracy variance within months. I also have to take in consideration the after sales service which can be a nightmare with the lot of horror stories I have read back and forth.
I will be honest I am much like Chuck Maddox (rip) who always said :"Old tech that works is good tech". He was and is absolutely right. It is like buying a older w126-w140 s class from the late 80's-early 90's which are much better quality wise and reliability wise than the newer models.
Don't get me wrong, l like Omega but the way the brand is heading to is very uncertain by trying to copy paste Rolex on every thing.
Best regards and have a great day
