Omega: Yes,

my feeling is that this is a painted dial. Not being able to see it under a loupe, I still think it's thinner than lacquered dials I've seen. So service replacement or sample are the two best options I can come up with. It certainly does look a fine piece with those markers. Cheers Desmond

Omega: PS

It looks as though the bezel is missing. Pic is not all that clear but it looks like it is absent.

Yes, generally the 168.0065 were pie pans, but some domed dials were also produced. These were a model that primarily went to Japan only and they're not all that common in Western countries. Gold plated models were fewer than SS. Cheers Desmond

Omega: We may never know....

But, as you say it is from a known Omega dial maker, although the XVI dials do not have the multiple ZJ embossing on the reverse, and my feeling is that it is not refinished. There are variations of XVI dials including a solid gold version, but this is the first one I have seen with these markers. T

Omega: yes,

the patina indicates sun damage o the top lacquer layer. Very nice and even. You could have the lacquer removed (I have seen this system work well on guilloche dials) however you then need someone who knows what they're doing to coat it with a gossamer thin layer of new non-cellulose lacquer. faked gold capped 14900 - 62 cases. The 14900 encases the cal 551 movement whereas the 14902 hosts a cal 561. Be nice to see the watch though as the fakers are getting cleverer. Cheers Desmond

Omega: Fine Choice

Congrats on your acquisition. If you can stop at one, you have much to teach the world :) The 'scientific' dial Omegas are very hard to find in that condition. Cheers Desmond

Omega: A genuine variation

As I remarked on another forum, the arabic numeral dials were a variation available as part of the normal model inventory. They appeared on 168.004s, 167.005s and 168.005s and were shipped around the world. While most dials for these cal 551 and 561 models were either pie pan with faceted markers or

Omega: It's a 14382

....model, being the deluxe version of the 14381. Late use of arrowhead markers (last seen in the 14902) makes this a nice collectible piece. The serial number of the movement will tell you roughly when the movement was produced, but 1961, as DrNo suggested is as good a bet as any. Cheers Desmond

Omega: Yes

...they did make a black dial version of 168.004. The tell-tale sign of a refinished dial is the white lettering. The original black dialled models have silvered lettering for stainless cases and gold lettering for gold cap and gold cases. Cheers Desmond
